Regals get quick start in victory over Point Edward

POINT EDWARD – The Guelph Regals grabbed a two-goal lead in the opening minute of the game as they breezed to a 22-8 victory over the Point Edward Pacers in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Saturday at the Point Edward Arena.

The Regals scored at least seven goals in each period and had a nine-goal run that started in the second period and ended in the third.

The Regals led 8-2 at the end of the first period and 15-3 after the second.

Marcus Keleher had five goals and five assists for the Regals while Owen Orpana also scored five times with three of them being shorthanded markers. Dylan Goddard and Julian Siragusa recorded hat tricks while Dylan Davey had two goals and Tyler Beecraft, Sam Savery, Zak Holmes and Ethan Keleher scored once apiece.

Kyle Beecraft had three assists while Goddard, Mason Walton and Parker Lock each had two assists while Sam MacDonald, Davey, Tyler Beecraft, Savery, Siragusa, Cam Wheeldon, Ethan Keleher, Orpana, Caelen Brady and Ryan Whelpley each had an assist.

Zack Snider and Konnor Adams each had three goals and two assists for Point Edward while Brett Vince had two goals and an assist. Jaxon Lucas had two assists while single assists went to Vince, Ryan Lumley, Danton Molotky and Graham Armstrong.

The Regals, who were scoreless on four power plays, outshot Point Edward 53-31. The Pacers went 1-for-6 on their power play.

Ty Fox-Trudel had 23 saves in net for the Regals while Aidan Foster had 31 saves for Point Edward.

The Regals improve to 4-2-0 with the victory while Point Edward has lost all five of its outings.

The Regals are to play the Wallaceburg Red Devils (1-2-0) at the Wallaceburg arena Sunday at 4 p.m.

Point Edward is to play the Elora Mohawks (4-1-0) at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus Sunday at 4 p.m.
