Regals to begin their regular season on the road April 16

GUELPH – The Guelph Regals, who are to begin their Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League open tryouts and training camp next weekend are about six and a half weeks from the regular-season opener.

The Regals released their 2020 regular-season schedule on the weekend and it sees their league play scheduled to begin on April 16 against the St. Catharines Spartans in Thorold.

Their home opener will be two days later against the Wallaceburg Red Devils.

The Regals are to play their home games at the Victoria Road arena again this season. They’ll have 10 home games during the regular season – four on a Wednesday, three on a Friday, two on a Sunday and one on a Saturday.

Longest homestand for the Regals is three games, something they’ll do twice in the first half of their season as six of their first eight games are home games.

Most consecutive road games is four as they’re to play at Wallaceburg May 23, Point Edward May 24, London May 29 and Elora May 31.

The Regals are to play a home-and-home series with every team in the Western Conference this season.

The locals also have six preseason games on their schedule, three in each the Six Nations Spring Showcase April 4 and three more at the Elora Mohawks Tournament at the Elora and District Community Centre April 11.

The Regals are to open their training camp March 8. As usual, it’ll be held at Kitchener’s Queensmount Arena.

They’ll have three sessions there as they’re to workout March 8 starting at 10 a.m., March 22 starting at 1 p.m. and March 29 beginning at 10 a.m. The first two are two-hour sessions and the third one is a four-hour session.

They’re to have their first session at the Victoria Road arena April 8. The two-hour session that is to begin at 7:30 p.m. is by invitation only.

The Regals were fourth in the Mid West Division and eighth in the Western Conference at 6-12-2 last season. They lost 3-1 in the best-of-five conference quarter-finals.
