Roach’s three points help Storm triple Saginaw

GUELPH – Jacob Roach turned in a three-point performance as he helped the Guelph Storm drop the Saginaw Spirit 6-2 Friday night in Ontario Hockey League play at the Sleeman Centre.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and the Storm was ahead 4-2 by the end of the second.

Roach led the Storm with two goals and an assist while Guelph’s other goals were scored by Pavel Gogolev, Danny Zhilkin, Matthew Papais and Andrei Bakanov. Cam Hillis and Cooper Walker each had two assists while Bakanov, Josh Wainman, Clark Hiebert, Eric Uba, Michael Bianconi, Luka Profaca and Daniil Chayka each had one.

Cole Perfetti and Ethan Cardwell netted the goals for Saginaw while Danil Antropov, Camaryn Baber and Dalton Duhart each had one assist.

Saginaw outshot the Storm 32-25. The locals went 2-for-4 on their power play and held the Spirit scoreless on two power plays.

Nico Daws stopped 30 shots to get the win in the Storm net while Saginaw goalie Tristan Lennox took the loss. He had 19 saves.

The Storm leads the Midwest Division and the Western Conference at 15-4-1-3 while Saginaw is tied for second in the West Division at 14-9-1-1.

The Storm are to play the Kitchener Rangers at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Sunday at 2 p.m.
