Rocks double up Stratford for two wins in two games
STRATFORD – The Elora Rocks made it two wins in as many outings in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League as they doubled the Stratford Fighting Irish 4-2 Saturday at Stratford’s William Allman Arena.
Stratford opened the scoring with just over seven and a half minutes to go in the first period before the Rocks tied it 43 seconds later and went ahead for good two and a half minutes after that.

The Rocks led 2-1 at the end of the first period and all of the scoring in the game was done by the end of the second.
Jacob Black had a pair of goals for the Rocks while Zack Cameron and Alex Utley added singletons. Assists were awarded to Aaron Smith, Cameron, Utley and Trevor Lord.
The Fighting Irish received goals from Ray Robbins and Hayden Broomhead while Sean O’Brien assisted on both goals. Clayton Lewis and Graham Brulotte also one assist apiece.
Shots on goal were not reported.
Colin Dunne picked up the win in goal for the Rocks while Logan Vermunt was tagged with the loss for Stratford.
The Rocks were scoreless on five power plays, but did have a shorthanded goal while Stratford went 1-for-6 on its power play.
In the league’s other game Saturday, the Strathroy Jets defeated the Alvinston Killer Bees 3-1 with Colin Vanrooyen scoring twice.
Friday in their season opener, the Jets scored four times in the third period to defeat the Tillsonburg Thunder 6-4. Mike Rowe and Dane Johnstone had two goals apiece for Strathroy.
The Rocks and Strathroy are tied for the league lead with 2-0-0-0 records while Tillsonburg is third at 1-1-0-0 and Stratford and Alvinston are tied for fourth at 0-2-0-0.
After starting the season with a pair of road games, the Rocks are to begin a stretch of seven consecutive home games Friday when they host Stratford at the Elora and District Community Centre. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
