Rocks doubled by Tavistock to finish regular season

ELORA – The Elora Rocks completed their Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league’s regular season with a 6-3 loss to the Tavistock Royals Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The loss was the second consecutive 6-3 setback for the Rocks as they had been defeated by that score by the Mapleton-Minto 81’s last weekend at Palmerston. It was also their fourth consecutive loss.

For Tavistock, it was the second consecutive win and their second in a row by a 6-3 score as they had downed the Milverton 4-Wheel Drives by that score last weekend at Tavistock.

Friday, Elora trailed 2-0 at the end of the first period and 4-3 after the second.

Chad Herron, Corey Flemington and Santino Di Florio each had a goal and an assist for the Rocks and Spencer Goulay, Lyam Cripps and goaltender Austin Hoegy also collected an assist.

Deven Kropf had a hat trick for Tavistock while single goals were added by Zach Lorentz, Brady Wheelans and Geoff Killing. Trevor Sauder, Killing and Sean Kienapple each had two assists and Lorentz, Wheelans, Angus Rowland and Scott Goodman had one apiece.

Hoegy was charged with the loss in the Elora net while Mike Roefs picked up the win in the Tavistock net.

The Rocks will finish 11th in the 14-team league and play in the A playoffs. They’ll play the 14th-place Lucknow Lancers (2-20-0-0) in the A quarter-finals. Dates have not been set. Elora defeated Lucknow 4-1 Nov. 23 at Elora in their only meeting of the regular season.

Tavistock (12-9-1-0) secured a spot in the AA playoffs with the win. They’ll finish either seventh or eighth depending on the result of Saturday night’s game between the Huron East Centenaires and Milverton at Milverton. If Huron East wins, Huron East gets seventh and Tavistock will be eighth. If Milverton wins, the Shelburne Muskies can finish eighth with a win over the Tilsonburg Thunder Saturday night at Tilsonburg.
