Rocks finish off Lancers with Game 2 victory

LUCKNOW – The Elora Rocks completed a two-game sweep of the Lucknow Lancers Saturday night with a 6-2 victory.

The win gives the Rocks a 2-0 victory in the best-of-three Western Ontario Athletic Association A quarter-final playoff series.

It also means that there will not be a game in the series at the Elora and District Community Centre on Super Bowl Sunday.

The Rocks led 3-0 at the end of the first period and 5-0 after the second. Lucknow scored both of its goals in the final 11 minutes of the game.

Stevie Alvo had two goals for the Rocks while Corey Flemington, Lyam Cripps, Shawn Lantz and Spencer Cudney added one apiece. Chad Herron assisted on three of the goals while Flemington, Lantz and Santino Di Florio each had two assists and Alvo, Bradey Prosic and Ben Piluk had one each.

Cody McIntyre and Evan Ducharme scored for Lucknow while single assists were given to Tanner Simpson, Ean Moffat, Jesse McIntyre and Cole Pellet.

The Rocks advance to a best-of-three A semifinal series with the Shelburne Muskies who were idle in the quarter-finals. Shelburne will have home-ice advantage.

Shelburne finished the regular season in 10th place at 11-11-0-0 while Elora was 11th at 9-12-1-0.

The Rocks and Muskies split their regular-season games with the Rocks winning 4-2 at Shelburne Oct. 13 and the Muskies winning 6-3 at Elora Nov. 16.

Dates for the playoff series have not been set, but it’s expected to start next weekend.
