Rocks hit for four in a row to top Shallow Lake

ELORA – The Elora Rocks scored four consecutive goals on their way to a 6-4 victory over the Shallow Lake Crushers in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey play Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The teams tied 1-1 in the first period before Shallow Lake scored twice in the first four minutes of the second. Elora connected for its first of the four-goal run just under three minutes later and the hosts led 4-3 by the end of the second.

Steve Dol and Brett Coverdale struck for two goals apiece for the Rocks while Spencer Gourlay and Kris Dobinson added single goals. Gourlay, Lyam Cripps and Brock West each had two assists and Dobinson had one.

Mackenzie Fleming had two goals for Shallow Lake while the other goals were scored by Daniel Zweep and Josh Bumstead. Adam Blundell assisted on three of the goals while Connor Long, Zach Freighburger, Fleming and Skylar Robertson each had one assist.

The teams each took 37 shots in the game.

Craig Byford picked up the win in the Elora net with 33 saves while Allan Manary had 31 saves for Shallow Lake.

Elora is 10th in the standings at 8-12-0-1 and Shallow Lake is 14th at 2-19-0-1.

The Rocks are to wrap up their regular season Saturday with a game against the sixth-place Tillsonburg Thunder (12-7-0-2) at the Tillsonburg Memorial Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
