Rocks hit in second to leave Plattsville behind

ELORA – The Elora Rocks struck for five goals in the second period on their way to a 9-3 victory over the Plattsville Lakers in WOSHL play Friday night at the Elora Community Centre.

The win moved the defending league champions into first place at 8-2-0-1, one point ahead of the Tilbury Bluebirds.

The Rocks led 2-1 after the first period and 7-1 after the second.

Mike Giacometti had a hat trick for Elora while Chad Herron scored twice and single goals were netted by Spencer Gourlay, Nick Tetley, Luke Hoelscher and Yianni Skropolis. Steven Dol and Luke Hoelscher each had three assists while Gourlay, Joey Heath and Matteo Condotta each had two and Brock Hoelscher, Tetley, Herron and Zack Cameron each had one.

Kevin Hu, Mitch Randell and Damian Caringi had the goals for Plattsville while Billy Desson had two assists and single assists were awarded to Hunter Dubecki, Justin Cheng, Bradley Watson and Eric Langridge.

The Rocks outshot The Lakers 47-32 and they scored on a first-period tripping penalty to Plattsville’s Ethan Scott, the only penalty called during the game.

Colin Dunne had 29 saves for Elora while Austin Dero had 38 saves for Plattsville.

The Rocks are to play the Stratford Fighting Irish (5-2-0-0) Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Stratford’s Allman arena.
