Rocks net eight in a row to drop winless Alvinston
ELORA – The Elora Rocks scored eight consecutive goals on their way to downing the Alvinston Killer Bees 9-4 in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.
The game completed a seven-game homestand for the Rocks. They won six of those games and are on a five-game winning streak.

The eight-goal spree started late in the first period and finished with just less than eight minutes to go in the game and turned a one-goal deficit into a seven-goal advantage. Alvinston scored twice in the final seven minutes to cut the final gap down to five goals.
The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period before Elora claimed a 7-2 lead by the end of the second.
Alex Utley had a hat trick for the Rocks while Chad Herron added a pair of goals and Aaron Smith, Spencer Gourlay, Brad Krysko and Andrew Whalen scored once each. Michael Giacometti collected four assists and Shaun Pickering had three, Herron and Smith had two apiece and Utley, Gourlay and Mark Hamilton each had one.
Grant Spence was involved in all four goals for Alvinston as he scored two of them and assisted on the other two. Blair Derynck and Avery Antone added a goal apiece while Christian Moccia had two assists and Derynck, Tyler Wingust and Jackson Brown had one each.
The Rocks outshot the Killer Bees 50-37. Colin Dunne picked up the win for the Rocks with 33 saves while Nolan Hakr started in the Alvinston net and was relieved by Spencer Roibertson at 7:46 of the third period after Elora’s ninth goal. Hakr had 28 saves and Roibertson stopped all 13 shots fired his way.
Elora is second in the five-team league at 8-1-0 while the Strathroy Jets lead at 8-0-1. Alvinston is fifth at 0-11-0.
The Rocks are to be back in action Saturday as they’re to tangle with the Tillsonburg Thunder at 7:30 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Community Centre. Tillsonburg is third at 5-5-0.
