Rocks on the edge after Friday win by Milverton

ELORA – The Elora Rocks need two consecutive victories to claim the Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s hockey league’s A championship following a 3-1 loss to the Milverton Four-Wheel Drives Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

Milverton’s win gives the Drives a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series with Game 6 set for Saturday night at Milverton.

Milverton scored the first three goals of Friday’s game before the Rocks connected for their lone goal, Chad Herron scoring 1:41 after the third goal for the Drives.

Milverton led 2-0 after the first period and the game’s scoring was completed by the end of the second.

Brent Freeman had two goals for Milverton while Chad Bauman scored the other one.

The A section of the playoffs is for teams that finished the regular season ninth or lower.

The AA section for teams that finished eighth or higher is down to the semifinals. Ripley Wolves defeated the Durham Thundercats 7-4 Friday to grab a 3-2 lead in that best-of-seven series while the Clinton Radars dropped the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks 5-2 Friday for a 3-2 lead in that series.

Saturday’s game between the Rocks and Drives at Milverton’s Perth East Recreation Complex is to start at 7 p.m.

If the Rocks win Saturday, the seventh and deciding game of the A final is to be played at Elora March 23 starting at 7 p.m.
