Rocks score three in third to topple Alvinston

ELORA – The Elora Rocks scored three times in the final 10 minutes of the game to down the Alvinston Killer Bees 5-2 in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.

The Rocks had scored the game’s first two goals 31 seconds apart in the first five minutes of the game, but Alvinston battled back with a pair of goals later in the period to tie the score 2-2. That score stood until the second half of the third period.

Alex Utley rifled home a pair of goals for the Rocks while Brett Mcinall, Tye Campbell and Zack Cameron scored once each. Spencer Maccormack assisted on three of the goals while single assists were awarded to Blaze Bridges, Campbell, Matteo Condotta, Joey Heath and Nick Tetley.

Cameron Rombouts and Josh Jamieson had the goals for Alvinston while assists went to Scott Case, Samual Macgee, Kane Johnson and Carson Perry.

The Rocks outshot the Killer Bees 44-28. Elora was scoreless on two power plays while the Killer Bees went 1-for 7.

Anthony Marshall had 26 saves in the Elora net while Nolan Dekoning had 39 for the Killer Bees.

The win was the second in as many games for the defending champion Rocks.

Next up for the Rocks is another game with the expansion Erin Blitz. They’re to play Oct. 15 at Centre 2000 in Erin in the Blitz’s home opener. Game time is 8 p.m.
