Rocks slip by Four-Wheel Drives in overtime

MILVERTON – Spencer Gourlay’s goal in overtime lifted the Elora Rocks to a 7-6 victory over the Milverton Four-Wheel Drives in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior men’s A semifinal play at the Perth East Recreation Centre Sunday.

The goal capped off a comeback for the Rocks that saw then rally from a three-goal deficit four minutes into the third period.

Milverton led 2-0 at the end of the first period and 5-3 after the second before the Four-Wheel Drives scored a minute and a half into the third.

Gourlay finished with two goals for the Rocks as did Trevor Lord while Lyam Cripps, Kris Dobinson and Steve Dol scored once apiece. Cripps assisted on three of the goals while Dobinson, Gourlay, Ed Gaffney and Ryan Maksymyk each had one assist.

Scoring for Milverton were Evan Buehler, Dennis Dewar, Chris Corbett, Alex Uttley, Riley Conners and Mike Vitelli. Chad Bauman collected two assists while Andrew Brubacher. Colin Martin, Buehler, Corbett and Uttley each had one assist.

Shots on net were not reported.

Colin Dunne picked up the win in net for Elora while Tim Bester took the loss for Milverton.

The result ties the best-of-seven series 1-1.

Game 3 is slated for Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre.
