
Rocks welcome Blitz to league with a thrashing
ELORA – The defending champion Elora Rocks began the defence of their Western Ontario Super Hockey League title by thumping the expansion Erin Blitz 15-2 Friday night at the Elora and District Community Centre.
The game was the opening game of the WOSHL season.

The Rocks scored seven times in the first period and extended their lead to 10-1 by the end of the second.
Chad Herron led the Rocks with five goals and two assists while Matteo Condotta, Steven Dol and Charlie Stephens each scored twice. Single goals were netted by Spencer Gourlay, Mike Giacometti, Tye Campbell and Alex Utley. Brendan Woods had four assists while Gourlay and Luke Hoelscher each had three. Condotta, Shaun Pickering and Zack Cameron each had two while single assists were awarded to Dol, Stephens, Giacometti, Campbell, Utley and Blaze Bridges.
Liam Galton and Clayton Peterick scored for Erin while Jacob Miller, Marc Sandwell, Jeff White and Stephen Hamilton each picked up an assist.
The Rocks outshot the Blitz 61-31 including a 22-7 advantage in the first period. Elora was scoreless on its lone power play while Erin was scoreless on three power plays.
Colin Dunne picked up the win in net for the Rocks. He had 29 saves.
Brayden Kelso and Matthew McCabe split the goaltending chores for the Blitz. Kelso took the loss. He had 15 saves in the first period while McCabe had 31 saves in the final two periods.
The Rocks are to host the Alvinston Killer Bees Friday at 8:30 p.m. while the Blitz’s next game is another clash with the Rocks. That one’s to be played Oct. 15 at Erin’s Centre 2000 arena. Game time is 8 p.m.
