Rocks yield two goals in third in loss to Ripley

RIPLEY – The Elora Rocks surrendered a pair of third-period goals as they were edged 4-3 by the Ripley Wolves in WOAA senior men’s hockey play Saturday night at the Ripley arena.

The hosts had scored the only goal of the first period before the Rocks came back to tie it 2-2 by the end of the second. Elora opened the scoring in the third, but Ripley netted the final two goals of the game for the victory.

Lucas Goodman, Corey Flemington and Spencer Cudney had a goal apiece for the Rocks while assists went to Andrew Whalen, Justin Byers, Cudney, Sam Bilton and Shawn Lantz.

Tyler McCarthy, Gerrit Satosek, Garrett Meurs and Cody Britton with the game-winner with 11:32 to go had the goals for Ripley. Dan Nicoloff assisted on two of the goals while Britton, Jordan Turcotte, Tyson Soers, Pat Looby, Brett Catto and Nick Seiler each had one assist.

Ripley outshot the Rocks 40-30 and went 1-for-4 on its power play while the Rocks went 1-for-3.

Austin Hoegy had 36 saves in the Elora net while Ryan MacDonald had 27 for Ripley.

The win moves Ripley to third in the league standings at 5-0-1-0 while the Rocks fall into a tie for eighth at 3-4-0-0.

The Rocks are to play the Milverton 4 Wheel Drives (2-3-0-2) at the Perth East Recreation Complex Friday at 8:30 p.m.
