Ross and Centennial skate into girls’ semifinals
GUELPH – The Ross Royals and Centennial Spartans opened their District 10 high school girls’ hockey playoffs with one-sided shutout wins in the quarter-finals Wednesday.
Ross dumped the St. James Lions 10-0 at Victoria Road arena while Centennial downed the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 8-0 at Centennial arena.
Taylor Doyle and Lauren Brulotte each hit for hat tricks for Ross while Robyn Dixon tallied twice. Olivia Sarabura and Dylan Meredith added single goals while Kiley Rowsell, Vanessa Ward, Doyle, Meredith and Sarabura each had two assists.
Charly Finoro picked up the shutout.
Details from the Centennial-GCVI game were not reported.
Third and final game of the quarter-finals between the Bishop Macdonell Celtics and Lourdes Crusaders is set for Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Exhibition arena.
Centre Wellington Falcons finished first at the end of the regular season at 11-0-1-0 to get a bye in the quarter-finals. Ross was second at 9-2-1-0 and Centennial third at 7-5-0-0. Lourdes and Bishop Mac tied for fourth at 6-6-0-0 and the winner of Monday’s game will be the D10 representative at the CWOSSA A/AA tournament at Baden and Waterloo March 9 and 10.
GCVI was sixth at 1-10-1-0 while St. James was seventh at 0-11-1-0.
The Falcons are to host Bishop Mac or Lourdes in a semifinal Wednesday at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex at 2:30 p.m. while Ross and Centennial are to meet in the other semifinal Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Victoria Road arena.
