Ross field hockey girls knocked out of semifinals

KITCHENER – The dream of qualifying for the OFSAA provincial high school girls’ field hockey championship tournament of the Ross Royals came to an end Thursday when they were handed a 4-1 setback in the CWOSSA semifinals at Woodside Park.

The Royals, who finished second in Pool B in Wednesday’s preliminary pool play, were defeated by the first-place finishers in Pool A at 2-0-0, the Bluevale Knights of Kitchener.

Lauren Davies had two goals for Bluevale while Sarah Dunbar and Abby Israel added single goals.

Sarah Taylor scored for Ross.

The St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener, first in Pool B, blanked the Cameron Heights Gaels of Kitchener, second in Pool A, 2-0 in the other semifinal.

Ella Murphy scored both goals.

Murphy scored the lone goal of the championship match as St. Mary’s edged Bluevale 1-0.

St. Mary’s and Bluevale both advance to the OFSAA championship meet Nov. 1 to 3 at Burlington.
