Ross, GCVI to once again meet in field hockey final
GUELPH – The Ross Royals and Guelph CVI Green Gaels are to meet in the District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey league’s championship match for the third consecutive year after both posted semifinal wins Wednesday at Varsity Field.
Both posted shutout victories as Ross blanked Centennial Spartans 4-0 and GCVI downed Bishop Macdonell Celtics 5-0.
Sarah Taylor and Kennedy Queen scored twice apiece for Ross in the win over Centennial. Mckenzie Coole picked up the shutout.
Maggie Smart and Jasmine Hasmatali hit for two goals apiece for GCVI while Jessie Struyk scored the other goal.
Lou Meloche and Brooklyn Loder shared the shutout for Lourdes.
The final is set for Monday at 4 p.m. at Varsity Field.
Ross will be looking for their third consecutive title and 10th overall while the Gaels will be looking for their first field hockey championship.
The Royals defeated the Gaels 3-1 in last year’s final and 2-0 in the 2016 final.
