Ross hockey girls get split to advance to CWOSSA AAA semifinals

BRANTFORD – The Ross Royals split their games Monday in the CWOSSA girls AAA high school hockey championship tournament to gain a berth in Tuesday’s semifinals.

The Royals finished second in their pool after losing 3-1 to the Brantford CI Mustangs and winning 1-0 over the Waterloo-Oxford Crusaders of Baden.

Skylar Sim scored against Brantford CI while Olivia Sarabura had the goal against Waterloo-Oxford.

Madeline Sanderson connected for a pair of goals for BCI while Madelyn Bellamy netted the other goal.

BCI downed Waterloo-Oxford in the other game in the pool to finish first while Ross was second and Waterloo-Oxford third.

Erika Bellamy, Grace Bellamy, Amanda L’Ami and Sanderson had the goal for BCI while Caitlyn Armstrong tallied for Waterloo-Oxford.

The Bluevale Knights of Waterloo finished atop the other pool with two wins while the St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener had a win and a loss and the Assumption Lions of Brantford had two losses.

Bluevale edged St. Mary’s 2-1 and blanked Assumption 5-0 while St. Mary’s defeated Assumption 3-1.

Tuesday’s semifinals at Brantford’s Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre features Ross against Bluevale at 9:30 a.m. and St. Mary’s against BCI at 10 a.m. Winners are to meet in the final at 1:30 p.m.
