Ross hockey girls slip by Lourdes, will finish in top three
GUELPH – The Ross Royals clinched a spot in the top three of the District 10 high school girls’ hockey league with a 5-4 edging of the Lourdes Crusaders Thursday at the Victoria Road arena.
With two games to go following the exam break, the Royals are second at 8-1-1-0 while Lourdes remains in a tie with the Bishop Macdonell Celtics, both with 5-6-0-0 records.
The Royals can finish ahead of the Centre Wellington Falcons (9-0-1-0) and can also be caught by the Centennial Spartans (6-3-0-0).
A first-place finish means a bye in the quarter-finals.
Thursday, Olivia Sarabura was involved in all five goals for the Royals as she had a hat trick and assisted on the other two, both scored by Avery Lomax who also had an assist. Kiley Rowsell had two assists and Emma Mussell had one.
Abigail Robinson netted a pair of goals for Lourdes while Georgia Bernhard and Angelina Gemin each had one. Bernhard and Kayla Tenhag each had two assists.
