Ross, Orangeville, Erin rugby girls sweep openers

GUELPH – The defending champion Ross Royals, Orangeville Bears and Erin Raiders each scored two wins Monday at the University of Guelph’s Varsity Field on the District 4/10 high school girls’ rugby league’s opening day.

Ross defeated Centennial and was then handed a victory in its second match as the Westside Thunder defaulted.

Orangeville dropped both the Wellington Heights Wolverines and Centre Wellington Falcons and Erin blanked both Westside and Wellington Heights.

Centre Wellington and the Guelph CVI Green Gaels had the other wins as Centre Wellington defeated GCVI and the Gaels rebounded to beat the Bishop Macdonell Celtics.


Centre Wellington 31 Guelph CVI 5

Michaela Little scored a try and kicked three converts for Centre Wellington while Dakota Denny had two tries. Emma Nankivell and Mel Hatch each added a try.

Tianna Dolderman scored the try for GCVI.

Ana Bernardi scored a try and kicked two converts for Ross while Maddie Gundy, D. Whittaker, Aniela Breen, Olivia Sarabura, C. Reeves and Drue Costello each added a try and Paisley Frasson kicked two converts.


Guelph CVI 24 Bishop Macdonell 17

Leksi Dawes, Mandeep Jawanda, Emmy Beebe-Viger and Sarah Demary each scored a try for GCVI while Hanna Gordon kicked two converts.

Maja Gadzinska, Giuliana Vair and Avery Reid scored tries for Bishop Mac and Sarah Funkenhauser booted a convert.


Orangeville 26 Centre Wellington 7

Jessica Anderson connected for two tries for Orangeville while Rebecca Hodder and Emilie Stevens had one apiece. Sydney Trewartha added three converts.

Madison Hodginson scored the try for Centre Wellington and Michaela Little converted it.


Erin 27 Wellington Heights 0

Kyla Warren scored two tries and kicked a convert for Erin while Anna Brake, Riley Miller and Jessica Gravelle each had one try.
