Ross, Orangeville knocked out of field hockey tourney

KITCHENER – The two District 10 teams at the CWOSSA high school girls’ field hockey championship tournament were the ones that didn’t qualify for the second day of the two-day event at Kitchener’s Woodside Park.

Both the D10 champion Ross Royals and the runners-up Orangeville Bears suffered two losses in pool play Wednesday and that kept them out of Thursday’s semifinals.

Ross was defeated 2-0 by the Resurrection Phoenix of Kitchener and edged 2-1 by Waterloo CI Vikings.

Megan Gunn scored the goal for the Royals.

Emma Hillier had both goals for Resurrection while Darci Moher scored for WCI.

WCI and Resurrection battled to a 1-1 standoff in the other Pool B game.

Orangeville was blanked twice in Pool A as the Bears lost 3-0 to the St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener and 5-0 to the Bluevale Knights of Waterloo.

Gillian Rovers scored twice for St. Mary’s while Lane Yuke netted the other goal.

Jalyn Harmon hit for two goals for Bluevale while single goals were added by Georgia Murray, Meagan Hobson and Sydney Blackburn.

Bluevale edged St. Mary’s 1-0 in the other game.

Thursday’s morning games pit WCI against Bluevale in one semifinal and St. Mary’s against Resurrection in the other. Winners advance to a 1 p.m. final.
