
Ross Royals finish senior hoops season undefeated
GUELPH – While the Ross Royals completed an undefeated run through the District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball league’s regular season, the Guelph CVI Green Gaels and St. James Lions both won to remain in a tie following the final day of the regular season Monday.
Ross defeated the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 68-58 for their 14th win in as many league games. Earlier in the day, GCVI rebounded to down the Orangeville Bears 54-38 while St. James downed the Centre Wellington Falcons 59-36.
While Ross finished atop the standings, Bishop Mac was fourth at 9-5 while St. James and GCVI tied at 5-9 and Centre Wellington and Orangeville tied at 1-13.
The Lions won the tiebreaker with the Gaels thanks to a seven-point win over GC at GC last month. The Gaels had defeated the Lions by two at St. James in December.
The Falcons also won the tiebreaker with the Bears. Centre Wellington defeated the Bears by 20 in Fergus about a month ago while Orangeville won by three at home early in December.
The league’s quarter-finals are to be played Tuesday.
Ross is to host Orangeville at 3:30 p.m. while there’s a trio of 5:30 p.m. games as St. James is to play at Bishop Mac, GCVI is to play at Centennial and Centre Wellington is to play at Lourdes.
Winners advance to Thursday’s semifinals while the championship game is slated for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
Guelph CVI 54 Orangeville 38
The visiting Bears led 21-9 at the end of the first quarter, but the Gaels pulled even with a buzzer-beater at the completion of the opening half.
Individual scoring statistics were not kept during the game.
St. James 59 Centre Wellington 36
In another morning game, the Lions won the match in Fergus. St. James was considered the home team for the rescheduled game.
Daidan Carter led the Lions with 16 points while Caleb Holman had eight.
Zach Taylor and Atticus Mason each had six for the Falcons.
Ross 68 Bishop Macdonell 58
Robert Vosper connected for a game-high 35 points for Ross while Landon Hart netted 16 and Austin Robinson had eight.
Brogan Furfaro had 21 for Bishop Mac while Ben Pigozzo struck for 20.
Junior Boys’ Basketball
Tuesday’s quarter-finals have St. James playing at Orangeville at 3 p.m., Centre Wellington playing at Bishop Mac at 4 p.m., Lourdes playing at Centennial at 4 p.m. and GCVI playing at Ross at 5 p.m.
The semifinals are to go Thursday while the junior final is scheduled for Saturday at 12 noon at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

P.J. Fera hit for 11 points for the Lions while Peyton Cummings had 10.
Tyler Holland led Centre Wellington with a game-high 19 points while M.J. Toppin had 14.
Orangeville 80 Guelph CVI 74
Scoring leaders were not recorded.
Ross 53 Bishop Macdonell 51
Trey Holmes struck for 14 points for Ross while Quinn F. collected 11.
Brandon Nguyen and Tyson Hamilton each had 14 for Bishop Mac.
