Ross Royals in CWOSSA field hockey semifinals

KITCHENER – The District 4/10 champion Ross Royals are to play for a berth in the OFSAA provincial high school girls’ field hockey championship tournament when they battle the Bluevale Knights in Thursday’s semifinals at the CWOSSA championship tournament at Woodside Park.

Winners of the 10 a.m. semifinals advance to the 1 p.m. final and also gain berths in the OFSAA tournament.

The Royals advanced to the CWOSSA semifinals after placing second in their pool with a win and a loss Wednesday.

Ross defeated the Elmira Lancers 1-0 and lost 3-0 to the St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener.

Jordan Faveri had the goal against Elmira while McKenzie Coole had the shutout.

Ella Murphy had two goals for St. Mary’s in the win over Ross while Gillian Rover scored the other one. Rachel Zmigrodski picked up the shutout.

St. Mary’s and Elmira battled to a scoreless draw in the other game in the pool. Shutouts were recorded by Zmigrodski of St. Mary’s and Faith Peev of Elmira.

The Guelph CVI Green Gaels were the team that didn’t advance out of the other pool as they were handed a pair of setbacks. The Gaels lost 3-0 to the Bluevale Knights of Kitchener and 2-1 to the Cameron Heights Gaels of Kitchener.

Lauren Davies, Sarah Dunbar and Sophie Schmidt scored for Bluevale in the win over GCVI. Kayla Desormeau had the shutout.

Jasmine Hasmatali had the lone goal for GCVI in the loss to Cameron Heights. Natasha Alder and Grace Lahey scored for Cameron Heights.

Bluevale blanked Cameron Heights 2-0 in the other game in the pool. Dunbar and Schmidt netted a goal apiece and Desormeau had the shutout.

Thursday’s semifinals have Ross playing Bluevale and St. Mary’s battling Cameron Heights.

The OFSAA tournament is to be played Nov. 1 to 3 at Nelson High School in Burlington.
