Ross Royals open boys’ hockey season with victory

GUELPH – The Ross Royals connected for a pair of unanswered goals in the third period to down the Orangeville Bears 5-3 in District 4/10 high school boys’ hockey play Friday at the Victoria Road arena.

Orangeville led 2-1 at the end of the first period and the teams were tied 3-3 after the second.

Connor Snedden and Adam Nightingale of the Royals both scored their second goals of the game in the third period. Cole Dal Bello had the other goal while Noah Van Dam had two assists and N. Thompson, Mitch Penner, Adam Best, Snedden and Dal Bello each had one assist.

Andy Whitton, Josh Presley and Charlie Erwin scored for Orangeville and assists were awarded to Presley, Whitton, Cole Teeple and Thomas Viveiros.

Next game in the league is set for Monday as the Centre Wellington Falcons are to host the Centennial Spartans Monday at 3 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.
