
Ross Royals take rugby boys’ semifinal doubleheader
GUELPH – The Ross Royals prevailed in a District 4/10 high school boys’ rugby semifinal playoff doubleheader Battle of the Royals Monday on their own field.
Ross scored one-sided victories over the Centre Dufferin Royals of Shelburne to gain berths in Thursday’s championship matches at Victoria Park in Fergus.
Senior
The host Royals dropped the northern Royals 55-0.
Ross was in control throughout, scoring a pair of tries in the first five minutes.
Rowan Boothe and Jeff Brown collected 15 points apiece while Dan Sarabura, Zack Brisbane, Erik Holst, Logan Mitchell and Isaiah Hare each had five.
Ross led 38-0 at halftime.
Ross is to play the winner of Tuesday’s semifinal between the Guelph CVI Green Gaels and Centennial Spartans in Thursday’s final. The championship match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Junior
Ross downed Centre Dufferin 48-7 in the junior match.
Centre Dufferin’s try came late in the game. However, the scorer was not reported.
Surnames were not reported for any of Ross’s scorers.
Isaac struck for four tries and two converts while Tim had a try and a convert. Adding one try apiece were Zach, Cam and Drew while Cohen had a convert.
Ross led 36-0 at halftime.
Ross advances to Thursday’s final where they’re to play the winner of Tuesday’s semifinal between the Centre Wellington Falcons and Erin Raiders. The junior final is to start the championship twinbill in Fergus at 5:15 p.m.
