Ross starts defence of football title with victory
GUELPH – The defending champion Ross Royals opened their District 10 high school football season with a 21-14 victory over the Bishop Macdonell Celtics Friday at Eastview Park.
The Royals won the league title in 2019 and all high school sports from March of 2020 through the 2020-2021 school year were cancelled due to the global pandemic.
First names were not reported for the Ross scorers. Nixon had nine points while Jean-Gaston and Utting each had six.
Jack Shoniker scored two touchdowns for Bishop Mac and Martina Vair kicked two converts.
This year all games are to be played spectator-free at the Eastview Park fields with tripleheaders each Friday.
Each team gets four games in the regular season. As usual, top four teams qualify for the playoffs in November.
