Ross volleyball seniors get to CWOSSA AAA semifinals
WATERLOO – The Ross Royals reached the semifinals of the CWOSSA AAA high school boys’ volleyball championship tournament before being eliminated by the St. Benedict Saints of Cambridge.
The District 10-champion Royals were swept 2-0 (25-22, 25-18) by St. Benedict.
The Waterloo CI Vikings won the title and the OFSAA AAA tournament berth with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) win over St. Benedict in the final.
Ross had a win and a loss in pool play as the Royals defeated the Owen Sound DSS Wolves 2-0 (25-16, 25-11) and lost 2-1 (25-13, 22-25, 15-11) to Waterloo CI.
Centennial Spartans made it to the semifinals of the junior tournament before being knocked out with a 2-0 (25-15, 25-20) loss to the Waterloo-Oxford Crusaders of Baden.
Waterloo-Oxford claimed the CWOSSA title with a 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 30-32, 26-28, 15-7) win over the Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) Highlanders of Waterloo.
Centennial had a win and a loss in pool play with a 2-0 (25-19, 25-7) win over the Owen Sound DSS Wolves and a 2-0 (25-14, 25-21) loss to SJAM.
CWOSSA AA
The Lourdes Crusaders finished fourth in their pool in the senior tournament.
The Crusaders lost their three matches in pool play as they were defeated 2-1 (15-25, 25-22, 16-14) by the Paris Panthers, 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) by the Sacred Heart Crusaders of Walkerton and 2-1 (25-18, 17-25, 15-11) by the Simcoe Composite Sabres.
Preston Panthers of Cambridge won the final 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 27-25) over Sacred Heart.
Bishop Macdonell Celtics reached the semifinals of the junior tournament before being ousted with a 2-1 (25-23, 21-25, 18-16) loss to the Saugeen Royals of Port Elgin.
The Celtics finished atop their pool with three victories as they defeated the Paris Panthers 2-0 (25-12, 25-13), Westside Thunder of Orangeville 2-0 (25-12, 25-23) and Holy Trinity Titans of Simcoe 2-0 (25-17, 25-14).
Westside defeated Paris 2-1 (23-25, 25-21, 15-13), but fell 2-0 (25-15, 25-11) to Holy Trinity.
The Norwell Varsity Reds of Palmerston finished fourth in their pool as they lost 2-0 (25-8, 25-19) to Glenview Park Panthers of Cambridge, 2-0 (25-10, 25-11) to Saugeen and 2-1 (28-26, 17-25, 15-7) to St. David Celtics of Waterloo.
CWOSSA A
Emmanuel Christian Eagles of Fergus finished as finalists in the senior tournament.
Woodland Christian Cavaliers of Breslau won the title with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 29-31, 25-18) win over the Eagles.
Emmanuel Christian had finished second in preliminary pool play with two wins and a loss. The Eagles defeated Walkerton Riverhawks 2-1 (25-23, 15-25, 15-13) and Delhi Raiders 2-0 (25-9, 25-23), but lost 2-0 (25-20, 25-20) to Woodland Christian.
Wellington Heights Wolverines of Mount Forest suffered a pair of losses in pool play in the junior tournament.
The Wolverines were defeated 2-0 (25-15, 25-21) by Walkerton Riverhawks and 2-0 (25-13, 25-16) by eventual champion Woodland Christian.
Woodland Christian downed Walkerton 2-0 (25-22, 25-15) in the final.
