Royals assure themselves of first-place finish in senior volleyball

GUELPH – The Ross Royals have returned to the top of the District 10 high school senior girls’ volleyball standings.

The Royals assured themselves of a first-place finish Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over the Centennial Spartans.

Ross leads the league at 12-1 with a game to go while the Bishop Macdonell Celtics are second at 10-2 with two games to go. While Bishop Mac can finish in a tie with the Royals, Ross will win the tie-breaker thanks to a pair of 3-1 victories over the Celtics.

The Royals return to the top of the standings for the first time since the 2016-17 season, their second of two consecutive first-place finishes. The Guelph CVI Green Gaels finished in first each of the last two seasons.

Tuesday, Ross defeated Centennial 25-14, 20-25, 25-15, 27-25.

In the league’s only other match, GCVI swept the Orangeville Bears 3-0, winning 25-14, 25-21, 25-11.
