Royals, Celtics unbeaten after first week of girls’ soccer

GUELPH – The Ross Royals and Bishop Macdonell Celtics stand as the lone undefeated teams in the District 10 high school girls’ soccer league following the opening week of play.

It was also the first week of league play since 2019 as both the 2020 and 2021 seasons were cancelled due to the global pandemic.

Each of the league’s eight teams played a single game Tuesday while all eight gathered at St. James Thursday to play two games apiece.

Ross stands atop the league standings following a trio of 1-0 victories while Bishop Mac is third after a win and two ties.

Sandwiched between the Royals and Celtics are the St. James Lions, the league’s top-scoring team through the first three games. St. James netted a total of nine goals in two wins and a loss.

Regular-season play resumes next week with the teams playing one game apiece on Tuesday and two each on Thursday with Thursday’s games being at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
