Royals, Hamilton to start playoffs Wednesday night
GUELPH – The Guelph Royals and Hamilton Cardinals are to begin their best-of-seven Intercounty Baseball League quarter-final playoff series Wednesday night at Hamilton’s Bernie Arbour Stadium.
Hamilton has home-diamond advantage thanks to finishing third in the league’s standings with a 20-16 record. The Royals finished tied for sixth in the eight-team league at 16-20, the same record they had last year.
The Royals finished tied with the Toronto Maple Leafs and won the tie-breaker by taking the season series between the two teams 3-2.
Hamilton won the season series with the Royals 3-2. Due to rainouts, four of those games were played in Guelph’s final 11 games of the regular season and those four were all played after July 10.
Game time Wednesday in Hamilton is 7:30 p.m.
The Royals are to host Game 2 of the series Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Hastings Stadium.
Game 3 is to go in Hamilton Saturday at 2 p.m.
Game 4 is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hastings Stadium.
Games 5, 6 and 7 will be played only if they’re needed.
Hamilton is to host Game 5 Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and Game 7 Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. if they’re necessary.
If Game 6 is required, it’s scheduled for Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Hastings Stadium.
