Royals, Lions to meet again to decide baseball title

GUELPH – The Ross Royals and St. James Lions are to meet Wednesday to decide the District 10 high school baseball league title.

Both posted semifinal victories Monday at Pearson Park, finishing their games just minutes before rain started to fall.

The Royals dropped the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 12-4 while the Lions blanked the Centennial Spartans 5-0.

Ross, St. James and Centennial had each finished the quick regular season with 2-1 records while GCVI finished at 0-3.

The Royals will be looking to retain the title they won in 2019 with a victory over St. James in the final. That season high school baseball was played in the fall. It moved to the spring this school year just so a season could be contested.

The 2020 season was cancelled due to the global pandemic.

The Royals will be looking for their 10th championship win in the 30-season history of the league. The Lions will be looking for their sixth and first since the 2001-02 season when they won their fifth consecutive title, the most in a row by any school.

Game time Wednesday at Pearson Park is 3 p.m.
