Rugby Royals sweep opening tripleheader

GUELPH – The Ross Royals opened the District 4/10 high school rugby season by sweeping all three of their matches Tuesday at the University of Guelph’s Varsity Field as they won in senior boys, junior boys and girls play.

The Royals defeated the Centre Wellington Falcons 34-5 in senior boys, Erin Raiders 40-0 in junior boys and Centre Wellington 64-0 in girls.

 

Senior Boys

Ross 34 Centre Wellington 5

Calvin Fogler scored a try for the Royals and added three conversions while single tries were collected by Mitch Penner, Adam Ford, Darren Sinclair and Jon Howie.

Reuben Bowley had the try for Centre Wellington.

 

Erin 38 Centennial 5

Zach Bingham struck for three trie sand three conversions for Erin while Jordan Tutt had one try and one conversions. Getting one try apiece were Malcolm Alderdice and Matthew Collette.

Josiah Sklar scored the try for Centennial.

 

Guelph CVI 43 Centre Dufferin 5

Troy Ellis led the scoring for GCVI with a try and four conversions. Owen Stirling and Brandon Inthavaly each scored two tries while Jimmy Huynh and Vinry Manotham added one try apiece.

Hudson Duck scored a try for Centre Dufferin.

 

Junior Boys

Ross 40 Erin 0

Scorers were not available.

 

Centre Dufferin 31 Guelph CVI 10

Aiden Mackenzie kicked three conversions for Centre Dufferin while tries were scored by Warren Swidersky, Abel Sales, Aiden Fernandez, Brady Marshall and Tucker Cunnington.

Blake Forester and Casey Long each had a try for GCVI.

 

Girls

The girls’ league is divided into two five-team pools this season with AA teams in Pool A and AAA teams in Pool B. Each team plays each of its pool mates once in league play and will also get a game against one of the teams in the other pool.

 

Ross 64 Centre Wellington 0

Olivia Sarabura connected for three tries and four conversions for Ross while Anna Bernardi had a try and three conversions. Abby Auger and Aliesha Lewis each scored two tries while Saneika Patterson and Brooke Frasson each added one try.

 

Orangeville 29 Guelph CVI 7

Holly Bonney-Brookman led Orangeville with three tries and two conversions while Hannah Curzon and Rebecca Hodder each had one try.

Sarah Ramage scored the try for GCVI.

 

Erin 46 Westside 0

Madi Busby had a try and three conversions for Erin while Daisy Wilson and Jessie Cuthbert each scored two tries. Other scorers were not reported.

 

Bishop Macdonell 67 Norwell 0

Maja Gadzinska collected a pair of tries for Bishop Mac. Other scorers were not reported.

 

Centennial vs. Wellington Heights

The game was postponed due to curfew on the field. Delays due to lightning and injuries earlier in the day left no time for this game.
