Scoring Woes? What scoring woes for Regals?

DRESDEN – The Guelph Regals didn’t have any scoring woes Sunday as they scored nine consecutive goals in a 13-5 victory over the Wallaceburg Red Devils in Ontario junior B lacrosse play at the Dresden arena.

The first six of that nine-goal streak came in the first period to give the Regals a 6-1 lead in the intermission. They continued the streak in the second period and led 10-2 at the end of the period.

Liam Holwell and Marcus Keleher each had hat tricks for the Regals while Mitch Taylor and Matthew Vilas each scored twice and single goals were collected by Jack Carter, Grant Patterson and Carter TenEycke. Holwell, Ethan Keleher, Marcus Keleher, Taylor and Vilas each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Jack Burke, Carter, Ethan Harkins, Carter McGrath, Patterson, David Pavlinich and Brady Wilson.

Cam Bechard tallied twice for Wallacebury while Hunter Santsche, Aaron Underwood and Mason Whiteye added single goals. Santsche also had three assists while Landon Allaer had two and Bechard, Kellen Franquist, Shawn Noah Glover, Underwood and Whiteye each had one.

The Regals outshot Wallaceburg 50-40, but were scoreless on three power plays while Wallaceburg went 2-for-8.

Hayden Finoro picked up the win, his first of the season, as he had 35 saves in the Guelph net. Strater Cecil Jacobs took the loss for Wallaceburg. He played the first period and C.J. Gibson played the final two. They combined for 37 saves.

The Regals were assessed 48 of the 76 minutes in penalties handed out during the game.

The win was the first for the Regals since they defeated the Red Devils 11-6 at the Victoria Road arena May 11.

The Regals are to play the Six Nations Rebels Friday at 8 p.m. at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville. They’re also to host the St. Catharines Spartans at the Victoria Road arena Sunday at 3 p.m.
