Scott helps Gargoyles overpower Toronto Dingos

GUELPH – Jordan Scott scored six goals as he powered the Grand River Gargoyles to a 79-24 victory over the Toronto Dingos in AFL Ontario Australian football play Saturday at Margaret Greene Park.

The Gargs jumped ahead in the first quarter and were never headed after that. They led 20-15 at the end of the opening quarter, 47-15 at halftime and 47-24 at the end of the third quarter.

Sam Wood and Kyle Mundell each had two goals for the Gargs while single goals were added by Hakeem Hall and Tyler Schwartzentruber.

The win ups Grand River’s record to 3-6-0. They’re sixth in the eight-team league while the Dingos are fifth at 4-5-0.

The Gargs have three games left on their regular-season schedule.

They’re to host the eighth-place Central Blues (0-8-0) Aug. 10 at 12 noon at Margaret Green Park and the second-place Toronto Rebels (7-1-0) a week later before wrapping up the campaign with a match against the third-place Toronto Eagles (5-3-0) Aug. 24 at 1 p.m. at Humber College South.
