Second-half goals keep Bishop Mac undefeated

GUELPH – A pair of goals two minutes apart in the second half kept the Bishop Macdonell Celtics undefeated in District 10 high school girls’ soccer play Tuesday.

Those goals gave the Celtics a 2-1 victory over the Guelph CVI Green Gaels at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

While the Gaels had carried most of the play in the opening half, the game remained scoreless. Bishop Mac came on in the second half and broke the game’s goose egg halfway through the half.

GCVI netted its goal with about three minutes to go in the contest.

Parnell and Jacobs scored for the Celtics and Oey-Smith had the goal for the Gaels.

Centennial Spartans lead the league at 5-0-0 while the Celtics are second at 3-0-2 and the Ross Royals are third at 3-1-0. They’re followed by the Centre Wellington Falcons (1-1-2), St. James Lions (1-2-2), the Gaels (1-3-1), Orangeville Bears (0-2-3) and Lourdes Crusaders (0-5-0).

The league’s regular season is to wrap up next Tuesday with playoffs scheduled to start with the quarter-finals May 18. Championship game is set for May 26.

O. Barcic had a hat trick for St. James while O. Pozzobon and M. Mueller scored twice each and H. Farrell and O. Fazari added single goals. S. Leblanc was credited with the shutout.

 

Centennial 4 Orangeville 0

Josie Morgan had a hat trick for Centennial and Lisa Kaltwasser scored the other goal.
