
Second-half goals lift Gryphon soccer men to win
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons tallied twice in the second half to blank the Waterloo Warriors and extend their lead atop the OUA men’s soccer league’s West Division.
The Gryphs, ranked fifth in the country, received second-half goals from midfielders Jack Sears and Gray Yates for the win.

Sears scored in the 64th minute and Yates added his goal eight minutes later.
Assists went to Jack Pensom and Evan Dick.
Svyatoslav Artemenko was credited with the clean sheet in net for the Gryphs although he didn’t have to make any saves as none of the four shots taken by the Warriors reached him.
Simon Grande had four saves in the Waterloo net while the Gryphs took eight shots in all.
The Gryphs also took five of the six corner kicks in the game.
The win leaves Guelph with a 4-0-2 record and 14 points, twice as many as runner-up Waterloo (2-1-1) and the Brock Badgers (2-2-1). Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers are tied at 1-2-1 while Laurier Golden Hawks trail at 0-3-0.
The Gryphs have four games to go in their regular season. They have a bye this week before hosting Brock Oct. 22, playing at Brock Oct. 24, hosting Laurier Oct. 27 and playing at Laurier Oct. 31.
