Second-period scoring by Six Nations leaves Braves behind

KITCHENER – The Kitchener-Waterloo Braves surrendered six goals in the second period as they fell 11-6 to the Six Nations Arrows in Ontario junior A lacrosse league play Thursday at Kinsmen Arena.

The outburst helped turn a 3-3 deadlock at the end of the first period into a 9-4 advantage for Six Nations at the end of the second.

Austin Staats struck for six goals and three assists for Six Nations while Travis Longboat had a pair of goals and Leland Powless, Owen Hill and Jerry Staats each had one goal. Longboat collected five assists while Powless had three assists, Hill and Jerry Staats each had two and Edward Teddy Leggett had one.

Jackson Reid tallied twice for K-W while single goals were added by Scott DelZotto, Brody Mclean, Spencer Pyke and Lucas Snider. DelZotto and Reid each had three assists while Tye Kurtz and Jake Stevens each had two and Jonah Boehm had one.

Six Nations went 1-for-5 on its power play while the Braves were 2-for-6 and the Arrows outshot the Braves 42-38.

Keron Dickson collected the win in net for Six Nations as he had 32 saves.

Steven Orleman was tagged with the loss for the Braves. He made 22 saves before being relieved by Cole Martin in the second period. Martin had nine saves.

The loss drops the Braves to 4-5-0 while Six Nations improves to 4-4-0. The Braves are to play the Mimico Mountaineers (4-3-0) at the Mimico arena Saturday at 8 p.m.
