Senior volleyball hosts post quarter-final victories

GUELPH – There were no upsets in the District 10 high school senior girls’ volleyball quarter-finals Monday as all four home teams swept their visiting opponents.

The first-place St. James Lions defeated the eighth-place Centre Wellington Falcons, the second-place Guelph CVI Green Gaels defeated the seventh-place Orangeville Bears, the third-place Centennial Spartans defeated the sixth-place Bishop Macdonell Celtics and the fourth-place Ross Royals defeated the fifth-place Lourdes Crusaders.

Wednesday’s semifinals, both with 4 p.m. game times, have GCVI hosting Centennial and Ross playing at St. James.

Semifinal winners have plenty of time to get ready for the final as it is to be played Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

 

St. James 3 Centre Wellington 0

The Lions won 25-12, 25-17, 25-14.

 

Guelph CVI 3 Orangeville 0

The Gaels won 25-13, 25-15, 25-11.

 

Centennial 3 Bishop Macdonell 0

The Spartans won 25-12, 25-14, 25-18.

 

Ross 3 Lourdes 0

The Royals won 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.

 

Junior Girls’ Volleyball

Sixth-place Centennial defeated third-place Centre Wellington in the lone upset of the quarter-finals.

First-place Ross defeated eighth-place Lourdes while second-place St. James defeated seventh-place GCVI and fourth-place Bishop Mac defeated fifth-place Orangeville.

Wednesday’s semifinals pit Centennial and Ross at Ross and Bishop Mac and St. James at St. James. Both matches are to start at 3:45 p.m.

The championship game is to go Feb. 21 at the GGAC at 6 p.m.

The Royals won 25-9, 25-12, 25-11.

 

St. James 3 Guelph CVI 0

The Lions won 25-20, 25-18, 25-15.

 

Centennial 3 Centre Wellington 1

The Spartans won 13-25, 25-16, 25-15, 27-25.

 

Bishop Macdonell 3 Orangeville 2

The Celtics won 25-14, 13-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-6.
