Shamrocks add to their series lead with victory in OT
DUNDAS – The Hespeler Shamrocks added to their lead in their Provincial Junior Hockey League Bloomfield Division quarter-final playoff series with another one-goal victory at the Market Street arena in Dundas Saturday night.
The Shamrocks struck in overtime to score a 5-4 victory and take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
The overtime goal allowed the Shamrocks to salvage the win in a game they led by three goals with nine minutes to go in regulation time.
Dundas scored the lone goal of the first period before Hespeler grabbed the lead with three goals in the second period, the only goals of the period. The Shamrocks added to their lead just over seven minutes into the third before the Blues added three goals in just over six minutes later in the period to force the extra frame.
Kyle Yetman netted the winner exactly 13 minutes into overtime on an unassisted effort.
Kyle Wagner, Darrian Morgan, Nick Donelle and Josh Houston scored in regulation time for the Shamrocks. Devin Schneider assisted on two of the goals while Dylan Beitz, Brayden Dupuy, Noah Trudeau, Houston, Matthew Diebolt and Wagner each had an assist.
Scott McLaren, Danny Attridge, Adam Kozlowski and Andrew Salt scored a goal apiece for Dundas while Chris Cudek and Connor Noonan each had two assists and Ryan Ellis, Mikhail Frolov and Salt had one apiece.
Hespeler outshot Dundas 53-35 including 15-6 in overtime. The Shamrocks also went 1-for-8 on their power play while Dundas was scoreless on six power plays.
Gavin MacLeod had 31 saves in net for the Shamrocks while Nolan Verardo of Dundas had 48 saves.
Next two games of the series are to be played at the Hespeler Memorial Arena. Game 3 is slated for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. and Game 4 is to go Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
