Shamrocks and Hagersville battle to scoreless stalemate
HESPELER – Goaltenders Gavin McLeod of the host Hespeler Shamrocks and Jamie Ferguson of the Hagersville Hawks stole the spotlight in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena as they stopped every shot fired their way.
McLeod and Ferguson each recorded shutouts as the Shamrocks and Hagersville battled through 67 minutes of scoreless play. McLeod stopped 40 shots while Ferguson had 42 saves.
The Shamrocks went 0-for-7 on their power play while Hagersville was scoreless on five power plays.
Hespeler is fifth in the Bloomfield Division at 9-14-2-1 while Hagersville is third at 15-6-2-2.
The Shamrocks have three games this week as they’re to host the seventh-place Port Dover Sailors (8-15-2-1) Wednesday at 8 p.m., play the eighth-place Dunnville Mudcats (7-18-0-0) at the Dunnville arena Friday at 7:30 p.m. and host the sixth-place Niagara RiverHawks (9-14-0-2) Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
