Shamrocks blanked in return from holiday break

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks returned from their holiday break with a 6-0 loss to the Tavistock Braves in Provincial Junior Hockey League play at the Hespeler Memorial Arena Sunday.

Tavistock scored three times in the first period and twice in the second for the win.

Jeffrey Kernichan stopped all 21 shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season and second against the Shamrocks. The other was Oct. 17 at Hespeler.

Tyson Gustow had 29 saves for Hespeler.

Patrick Vulgan scored twice for Tavistock while single goals were added by Andrew Van Boekel, Ryan Donat, Drew Gerth and Jameson Ritz-Teixeira. Gerth, Nathan Yeck and Josh Helgerman each had two assists while Will Schlotzhauer, Guelph native Brock McKenzie, Van Boekel, Derek Bush, Vulgan and Owen Rahn each had one assist.

Next up for the Shamrocks is Friday game at Norwich against the Merchants at the NOR-DEL Arena. Game time is 8 p.m.

The Shamrocks are also to host the New Hamburg Firebirds Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
