Shamrocks clouted by division-leading Glanbrook

GLANBROOK – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded five goals in the second period as they were dropped 9-1 by the Bloomfield Division-leading Glanbrook Rangers in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Wednesday night at the Glanbrook arena.

After a scoreless first period, Glanbrook was ahead 5-0 at the end of the second.

Matt Hall scored midway through the third period for Hespeler. Troy Moffitt and Dylan Beitz assisted on the goal.

Mathew Rimac had a hat trick for the Rangers while Connor McQuhae scored twice. Adding single goals were Matt Stayshyn, Elijah Nurse, Connor King and Dawson Shackelton. King assisted on four of the goals while McQuhae and Rimac had two apiece and Connor Maitz, Nicholas Bisser, Lukas VanBerkel, Zach Manazzone, Shackelton, Matthew Hogan, Sean Golebiowski, David Wilson, Jake Pelissier and Josh Pace.

Glanbrook outshot the Shamrocks 41-26 and went 1-for-2 on their power play while Hespeler was scoreless on three power plays.

Gavin McLeod took the loss for the Shamrocks despite making 26 saves. Connor Pickard played the final 10:44 of the game and had six saves.

Warren Lament collected the win with 25 saves for Glanbrook.

The Shamrocks were scoreless on three power plays while Glanbrook went 1-for 2.

Glanbrook leads the division at 30-3-0-1 while the Shamrocks trail at 5-28-1-1.

The Shamrocks are to play the Niagara RiverHawks (16-13-0-3) at Niagara Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and host the Port Dover Sailors (11-19-2-3) Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
