Shamrocks come back to tie one on with Hagersville

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded a pair of goals 44 seconds apart before the game was four minutes old, but they recovered to battle the Hagersville Hawks to a 4-4 deadlock in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The Shamrocks have three wins and a tie on home ice in their first season in Hespeler while they have a win (in their season opener) and a loss in overtime for their points on the road.

Saturday, the Shamrocks led 4-3 at the end of the first period and that would be the game’s only scoring until Hagersville tied it with 4:48 to go in regulation time.

Troy Moffit, Jack Hammill, Kyle Wagner and Joseph Tabet had a goal apiece for Hespeler while assists were awarded to Austin Reilly, Matt Hall, Tabet, Trevor Wilson, Mitch Montgomery, Ryan Frost, Cameron Tonner and Tony Tikel.

Peter Cappucci, Hayden Smith, Keegan Cumming and Matt Weston scored for Hagersville. Tycie Cowan and Nick Visser each had two assists while Ralph Taggart, Mitch Gauthier, Harrison Larochelle and Jacob Lauretani had one apiece.

Shots on goal were not reported.

Hespeler went 1-for-4 on its power play and held Hagersville scoreless on two power plays.

Nathan Butler of Hespeler and Justin Easter of Hagersville picked up the ties in net for their respective teams.

Hagersville is tied for third in the Bloomfield Division at 10-8-2-2 while the Shamrocks are eighth at 4-16-1-1.

The Shamrocks are to play the seventh-place Dunnville Mudcats (4-13-1-2) at the Dunnville arena Friday at 7:30 p.m.
