Shamrocks connect first in victory over Sailors

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks struck for the first three goals of the game as they downed the Port Dover Sailors 4-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Wednesday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The Shamrocks scored the lone goal of the first period then added two more before the middle frame was six minutes old. Port Dover scored later in the period before Hespeler completed the scoring with a power-play goal in the third.

Troy Moffitt, Dylan Cummings, Matthew Diebolt and Matthew Hayward had a goal apiece for the Shamrocks while Brett Hartin had three assists and Cummings, Josh Houston and Kyle Yetman had one each.

Milne Jr. had an unassisted goal for Port Dover.

The Shamrocks were outshot 38-29 and went 1-for-5 on their power play while Port Dover was scoreless on eight power plays.

Gavin MacLeod had 37 saves for Hespeler while A.J. Scala had 25 for Port Dover.

The Shamrocks are to play the Grimsby Peach Kings at Grimsby Friday at 7:30 p.m.
