
Shamrocks connect on power play for opening-game win
PARIS, Ont. – A pair of power-play goals in the third period lifted the Hespeler Shamrocks to a 3-2 victory over the Paris Mounties in their Provincial Junior Hockey League season opener Saturday night at the Brant Sports Complex.
Derek Taylor pulled the Shamrocks even with his power-play goal midway through the third.

Ethan Hodgert struck for the winner for Hespeler four and a half minutes later.
Kwang Sheng Luu had scored the opening goal for Hespeler early in the first period.
Ryan Fraser collected two assists for the Shamrocks while Gavin Logher and Braeden Tyler each had one.
Xavier Moura scored for Paris early in the second period and Teagan Maybury put the hosts ahead early in the third. Aidan Switzer, Owen Switzer and Thomas Kitchen each had an assist for the Mounties.
Hespeler outshot Paris 34-33 thanks to a 16-6 advantage in the third period. The Shamrocks also went 2-for-9 on their power play and they held Paris scoreless on seven power plays.
Tyson Gustaw picked up the win in the Hespeler net with 31 saves while Nick Barker also had 31 saves in the Paris net.
The Shamrocks are to host the Tavistock Braves in their home opener Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
Tavistock blanked Paris 4-0 at Tavistock Friday night.
