
Shamrocks doubled by Wellesley Applejacks
WELLESLEY – Single goals in the first and second periods proved to be the difference as the Hespeler Shamrocks fell 4-2 to the Wellesley Applejacks in PJHL play Saturday night at the Wellesley Community Centre.
While Wellesley led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after the second, Hespeler twice cut the gap to a single goal in the third period.

Riley Panagapka’s unassisted shorthanded goal seven and a half minutes into the third period for the Shamrocks cut the gap to a single goal.
The Applejacks got the lead back to two goals with a power-play goal with 2:48 to play, but Hespeler’s Hudson Weger tallied with 57 seconds to go to get the gap back to a goal. Assists went to Jett Spark and Trent Collins.
However, Wellesley’s Kyle Baker added an unassisted empty-net goal with one second to go to get the gap back to two goals.
Carson Wickie, Jake L’Heureux and Owen O’Donnell had single goals for the Applejacks while assists went to Adam Hoff, Baker, Alexandr Sutchin and Curtis Butler.
Wellesley outshot the Shamrocks 37-31 and went 2-for-6 on their power play. The Shamrocks were scoreless on six power plays.
Tyson Gustaw had 33 saves for Hespeler while Travis Jansen had 29 for Wellesley.
The Shamrocks are sixth in the Doherty Division at 1-13-1-0 while Wellesley is third at 9-4-1-1.
The Shamrocks are to host the Paris Mounties Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
