Shamrocks drop another home match to unbeaten Peach Kings
CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks suffered their fifth consecutive home loss Wednesday when they were downed 4-1 by the Grimsby Peach Kings in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Wednesday night at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
Including last season’s playoffs, the Shamrocks have dropped nine consecutive home games. Of this season’s losses at home, two were to the undefeated Peach Kings (11-0-0-0) and one each to the third-place Glanbrook Rangers (9-5-0-0), fourth-place Dundas Blues (5-5-0-0) and sixth-place Port Dover Sailors (3-7-1-1).
Kyle Wagner had a power-play goal for Hespeler in the opening minute of the second period. Assists went to Ryan Frost and Devin Schneider.
Tyler Bush had a hat trick for Grimsby while Jack Venneri scored the other goal. Bailey Stumpo collected two assists and Matt Schouppe, Addison DeTullio, Jacob Barnowski, Dorion Maye and Dravin Maye each had one.
Hespeler outshot Grimsby 39-36. The Shamrocks went 1-for-6 on the power play while Grimsby went 1-for-7.
Gavin McLeod had 32 saves in the loss for the Shamrocks while Riley Maskell had 38 saves for Grimsby.
The Shamrocks are in a three-way tie for sixth in the Bloomfield Division with a 3-8-0-0 record. Dunnville Mudcats have an identical record and the Niagara RiverHawks are at 2-6-0-2.
Wednesday’s game was the first of four in five days as they’re to play the RiverHawks in Niagara Falls Thursday at 7:30 p.m., play the Sailors in Port Dover Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and host the second-place Hagersville Hawks (8-0-1-2) at the Hespeler Memorial Arena Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
