Shamrocks dropped in their playoff opener

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks were dropped 9-0 by the Glanbrook Rangers to open their best-of-seven Provincial Junior Hockey League Bloomfield Division quarter-final playoff series Saturday night at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

Glanbrook connected four times in the first period, once in the second and four more times in the third to account for the scoring.

The Shamrocks were limited to 11 shots in the game and they were scoreless on their five power plays while Glanbrook had 46 shots and went 3-for-6 on its power play.

Connor Maitz led Glanbrook with a four-goal outing while Elijah Nurse scored twice and Lukas VanBerkel, Mathew Rimac and Dawson Shackelton added single goals. Nicholas Bisser assisted on five of the goals and Rimac had three assists, Noah Matteson two and David Wilson, Jacob Buch, Shackelton, Connor King, Josh Pace and Matt Stayshyn one apiece.

Warren Lament picked up the shutout in net for Glanbrook while Gavin McLeod took the loss in net for the Shamrocks despite making 37 saves.

Second game of the series is set for Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Glanbrook arena.
