Shamrocks edge division-leaders in overtime

CAMBRIDGE – Austin Reilly’s power-play goal with 58 seconds to go in overtime gave the Hespeler Shamrocks a 4-3 victory over the Grimsby Peach Kings in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

Grimsby scored the only goal of the first period and led 2-1 after the second, but needed a power-play goal by Adam Kozlowski with 3:22 to go in the third period to take the game into overtime.

Robert Colton, Austin Slaney, Joseph Tabet and Reilly each had a goal for Hespeler while assists went to Matthew Tonner, Tabet, Colton, Troy Moffitt, Brett Hartin and Devin Schneider.

Jack Bartlett, Daniel Scotland and Kozlowski scored for Grimsby. Brennan Smith assisted on two of the goals while Andrew Ceolin, Tyler Bush, Maxime Pleau and Scotland each had one assist.

Grimsby outshot the Shamrocks 23-11 and went 2-for-5 on its power play while Hespeler went 1-for-6.

Gavin McLeod was the winning goaltender with 20 saves while Riley Maskell took the loss.

Hespeler is eighth in the Bloomfield Division at 7-29-1-1 while Grimsby (32-4-1-1) is tied for the division lead with the Glanbrook Rangers (32-4-0-2).

Combined with last weekend’s win over the Port Dover Sailors, the win over Grimsby marks the first time this season the Shamrocks have won two games in a row.

The Shamrocks have four games to go in their regular season. They’re to play the Hamilton Huskies Junior Blues (18-15-1-3) at Olympic Arena in Dundas Thursday at 8:20 p.m.
