A pair of goals by Tavistock’s Nicolas Thibodeau 31 seconds apart in the first two minutes of the third put the Braves ahead, but Alex Spencer tied it for the Shamrocks less than four minutes after Thibodeau’s second goal.

However, Tavistock responded with four more goals, the first one coming 49 seconds after Spencer’s goal.

Thomas Giffin and Derek Taylor scored the other goals, both on power plays, for the Shamrocks while Spencer, Justin George, Braeden Tyler, Ryan Fraser, Gavin Logher and Owen Goetz each had one assist.

Alexander Thompson, Owen Rahn, Carter McKay, Will Schlotzhauer and Christian Bergmann collected single goals for Tavistock while Ian Glendinning and Schlotzhauer each gathered two assists. Single assists went to Carter Arseneau, Connor Otto, Andrew Van Boekel, Tyler Brezynskie, Daniel Rudy, Simon McCandless, Jayden Seguin and Rahn.

Tavistock outshot the Shamrocks 37-33, but were scoreless on six power plays while Hespeler went 2-for-5.

Tyson Gustaw allowed six goals on 30 shots for the Shamrocks while Gavan Mask played the final 8:22 of the game and gave up one goal on seven shots. Jeff Kernichan had 30 saves for Tavistock.

The win leaves Tavistock locked into a fourth-place finish in the Doherty Division at 21-15-3-2. Woodstock Navy Vets are assured of a fifth-place finish as they’re at 18-21-1-1 while the Shamrocks (5-32-3-1) and Paris Mounties (5-32-2-2) are tied for sixth in the seven-team division.

The bottom four each had games postponed by Friday’s snowstorm. Hespeler was to have played at Woodstock while Paris was to have played at Tavistock. They won’t be rescheduled.

The Shamrocks won four of the seven regular-season games with Paris, but were outscored 20-17 in those games.

Top three, in order, are the New Hamburg Firebirds (31-6-3-2), Wellesley Applejacks (31-7-2-2) and Norwich Merchants (29-12-1-0). They’ve completed their regular seasons.

Playoff dates have not been set, but are to begin this week.
